Rumors have swirled that Apple could be working on a new wearable^( . However the only question is when will such a device make its debut? For those who are interested to see how Apple will tackle the AR market with a wearable, it seems that you have a bit of waiting to do.
According to analyst Gene Munster of Loup Ventures, he is now predicting that the Apple Glasses^( . According to Munster, “We expect Apple’s AR theme to play out in three phases. First, this fall we expect 2 to 3 new iPhones to join iPhone X with advanced optics for AR (VCSEL arrays).”
“Second, AR apps built using ARKit will slowly become the next gold rush for developers, led by games, ecommerce, and education. Last, we expect Apple will release Apple Glasses late in 2021.” This isn’t the first time that Munster has predicted the launch of Apple’s AR glasses, where previously his company had predicted it would launch in 2020.
The reason for the new and later estimate is after meeting several AR experts, in which based on the conversations, it is believed that such devices in general are still several years away from becoming mainstream. Munster also believes that adoption of such devices might be difficult due to the negative perceptions surrounding the wearing of such devices due to their built-in cameras.
