App News: Glimpses of a Through the Ages Expansion and Castles of Burgundy

by David Neumann, iOS News

Completely and Totally iOS Board Game News. But also Android Board Game News. Oh, and PC/Mac/Linux Board game news, too. Okay, it might even be Nintendo Switch news? No, probably not. Maybe? Is anyone else hot? I’m really warm right now. I’ll be outside.

Through the Ages Expansion Screenshot Appears on Twitter

The digital port of Through the Ages is definitely one of the four apps currently chiseled into whatever the iOS Board Games version of Mt. Rushmore would be called. (Incidentally, the other 3 are Twilight Struggle, Race for the Galaxy, and Terraforming Mars. FIGHT ME!)

We’ve known that Czech Games Edition has been working on an expansion for both digital and cardboard TtA for a bit now, Leaders & Wonders. Today I spotted my first glimpse of it in the wild and the screenshot has a lot to offer. Five new leaders are visible and three new wonders. Take a look and let’s try to figure out what’s happening in the comments.

First Look of Castles of Burgundy

After the sucessful launch of the rather-wonderful Stockpile a couple weeks ago, Digidiced UG could have sat back and put their feet up and relaxed. Instead of that nonsense, they’re hard at work on their next Big Thing, a digital port of Stefan Feld‘s hit, The Castles of Burgundy.

We’ve known for a bit that tCoB was on the Digidiced docket, but today we’ve learned a bit of what we can expect when it graces our devices in 2019.

Digidiced wrote:

In the original board game The Castles of Burgundy, released in 2018 and designed by the cult author Stefan Feld, players work to build the most successful medieval princedom.

They chose to place new settlements, gather resources, trade, and build castles. TCOB is a classic strategy board game, where everything you do gains you some points. But some choices bring you points faster and easier.

The Castles of Burgundy’s unbroken popularity (Rank 11 overall on Boardgamegeek) even spawned card and dice game spinoffs.

DIGIDICED now sets out to develop the digital adaption. The game will be released on different platforms (iOS, Android, PC, Mac and Linux) and offer cross-platform play, different interfaces for big and small screens, 9 languages and the usual good feature set provided by DIGIDICED.

Gameplay

Two dice set out the action options, but the players always make the final choices. Whether trading or livestock farming, city building or scientific research, many different paths lead to the prosperity and prominence of the players!

The many ways to gain victory points in this building game require careful thought round after round along with extensive planning ahead. Thanks to the different estates, the game remains challenging for the players for a long time, as no two games play out alike.

Features

– platforms: Android, iOS, Steam (Mac, PC, Linux)

– cross-platform play

– ranked and casual games

– computer opponents

– hot-seat offline play

– asynchronous game with notifications

– fast ranked games for live experience

– languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Korean, Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Russian and Italian

So, there you have it. All the information we currently have on what might be Digidiced’s most anticipated release ever (okay, that was Terra Mystica, but this one’s right up there).

I also noticed in their press release the following:
