Fox Sports, AT&T, Intel To Demonstrate 5G Speeds With 4K Stream

5G will be the future standards in which mobile internet will be based on, and unsurprisingly many are touting just how fast it will be. However given that not many of us have gotten to experience it for ourselves, Fox Sports has announced that together with AT&T and Intel, they plan on demonstrating how fast 5G can be ^(http://www.foxsports.com/presspass/latest-news/2018/05/15/fox-teams-ericsson-intel-att-deliver-4k-5g-2018-u-s-open).

How will they do that? They will do that by streaming 4K video over 5G for the 118th US Open Championship which will be taking place between the 14-17th of June. According to Fox, “The 5G wireless technology will transmit 4K HDR images from two FOX Sports cameras positioned on the challenging par-3 seventh hole at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club through the FOX Sports production truck, making it available to FOX Sports and its viewers through DirecTV. In the future, 5G could possibly be used to deliver real-time virtual reality views from the course to viewers.”

It will be interesting to see if 5G is capable of providing such a stream to viewers, especially in 4K HDR which will no doubt require a lot of bandwidth. Major carriers in the US have announced their plans to roll out 5G over the coming months with hopes to get 5G up and running in various cities in the US by the end of the year ^(http://www.appmarsh.com/2018/05/verizon-5g-los-angeles-q4-2018/). However with most of our mobile devices not being able to support 5G just yet, it will most likely be in 2019/2020 that we will finally be able to experience it on our phones.
