HTC Exodus Is A Blockchain-Powered Smartphone

Cryptocurrency is a big thing, so much so that we’re starting to see many mainstream tech companies get into it. Take for example Facebook who according to the latest rumors, might be developing their own cryptocurrency ^(http://www.appmarsh.com/2018/05/facebook-planning-own-cryptocurrency/). Now it looks like HTC wants in on it as well and have teased an upcoming smartphone called the HTC Exodus.

Now the phone itself has yet to be launched and we’re not sure when it will be launched, if ever, but if anything it does reveal HTC’s plans or interest in the technology. The idea behind the phone isn’t so much about mining for cryptocurrency itself, but acting as a node for a native blockchain network that can be used to facilitate cryptocurrency trading amongst the phone’s users.

The handset is being led by Phil Chen who is the creator of the HTC Vive VR headset. According to Chen, “Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more. We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we’ll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together.”

Whether or not there will be a demand for such a device remains to be seen but HTC is definitely not the first to think of such a device. Recently Sirin Labs announced their own blockchain smartphone ^(http://www.appmarsh.com/2018/05/sirin-labs-confirms-specs-for-finney-blockchain-smartphone/) that is set for a release in October later this year.
