Nokia 8.1 with HDR display, Snapdragon 710 launches: Price, specifications

Nokia 8.1 was launched at a launch event in Dubai on Wednesday. The smartphone is the global variant of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China back in October. The Nokia 8.1 has the same specs as the Nokia X7 except for the Android One program. The highlights of the Nokia 8.1 are dual rear camera setup with Zeiss optics, Snapdragon 710 SoC, Android 9 Pie, and 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.

Nokia 8.1 Specifications

The Nokia 8.1 sports a 6.18-inch FHD+ (2246×1080) display with 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It is the same PureDisplay that was first introduced in the Nokia 7.1. The display offers a higher contrast ratio and sharper colors.

The 7.97mm thick Nokia 8.1 features a PureDisplay that is capable of playing back HDR10 content. The display is protected by Corning’s 2.5D Gorilla Glass and it is also found at the rear. The Series 6000 aluminum chassis features diamond cut edges and it is strong enough to withstand regular wear and tear while offering a premium in-hand feel.

There’s also support for Qualcomm’s aptX streaming codec for improved audio quality over Bluetooth. There’s a 3500mAh battery powering the device. Other notable specs include 18W fast charging support, 4GB LPDDR4x RAM, 64GB storage expandable up to 400GB via microSD card, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C connectivity, fingerprint sensor, NFC, Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box, and more.

It sports a dual rear camera setup with Zeiss optics. There is a 12MP primary camera with 1.4-micron pixels, OIS, EIS, dual-LED flash, and a 13MP secondary camera for depth sensing. The Nokia 8.1 has a 20MP front camera with 0.9-micron pixels and 4-in-1 pixel tech for better low-light imaging. It also supports the Bothie feature which allows using both the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ AGPS + GLONASS. The device packs a 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support and it promises to offer two-days battery life. It also has Google ARCore support.

Price, availability

The Nokia 8.1 price starts at EUR 399. It will go on sale in Europe and the Middle East from mid-December. The device comes in Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel color options.
