Apple Highlights New Features in Apple News+, Endorsements From Participating Publishers

Apple today highlighted some new changes to its Apple News+ subscription service as well as endorsements from participating publishers.

According to a new press release ^(https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/05/apple-news-plus-offering-exclusive-covers-innovative-storytelling-from-hundreds-of-publishers/), Apple News+ subscribers can now follow publications directly from the Apple News+ catalog view in the latest versions of iOS and macOS, while new issues from followed publications are automatically downloaded for offline reading.

The new follow button was included as a minor bullet point in the iOS 12.3 release ^(https://www.appmarsh.ca/news/ios-12-3-download/), but Apple has decided to give it a bit more exposure with its own press release.

Apple ^(https://www.appmarsh.ca/watch/apple-watch-series-3-replacement/) SVP of Internet Services, Eddy Cue, said that since the service’s launch, they have heard great feedback from the participating publishers available in Apple News+, while hundreds of employees are reportedly working to make the service “the best experience for people.”

“We’ve heard a lot of great feedback from the hundreds of publishers available in Apple News+ ^(https://www.appmarsh.ca/news/apple-news-launch/). The latest updates to Apple News+ aim to best showcase their incredible journalism and put the most trusted news sources at readers’ fingertips,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “Apple News+ customers are very engaged readers, with most visiting the News app daily. Hundreds of people at Apple, across editorial, engineering, marketing and design teams, are working to make Apple News+ the best experience for people who love reading their favorite titles and discovering new stories.”

Apple has also included a number of breakdowns of the ways several publications have used the Apple News+ since its inception, including The Highlight by VoxPeopleHarper’s BazaarTown & CountryMartha Stewart Living, and Popular Science.

The feedback from the publications’ editors can be read over at the Apple Newsroom ^(https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/05/apple-news-plus-offering-exclusive-covers-innovative-storytelling-from-hundreds-of-publishers/).

Apple Highlights ‘Great Feedback’ Received From Hundreds of Apple News+ Publishers

While the highlight of last week’s iOS 12.3 release was a revamped TV app with a new “Channels” feature ^(https://www.appmarsh.com/2019/05/13/apple-releases-ios-12-3/), the release notes also mentioned a minor change to the Apple News ^(https://www.appmarsh.com/guide/apple-news-plus/)+ interface that did not receive as much attention.

Ensuring the feature gains some awareness, Apple in a press release ^(https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/05/apple-news-plus-offering-exclusive-covers-innovative-storytelling-from-hundreds-of-publishers/) today highlighted the ability for Apple News+ subscribers to follow publications directly from the Apple News+ catalog view in iOS 12.3 and macOS 10.14.5 ^(https://www.appmarsh.com/2019/05/13/apple-releases-macos-mojave-10-14-5/). New issues from followed titles are automatically downloaded and available offline.

Apple added that it has received “a lot of great feedback from hundreds of publishers” available in Apple News+, with quotes featured from editors of publications such as Vox, People, Harper’s Bazaar, and Popular Science.
