Google famously alters its homepage logo to commemorate significant events and people with its own brand of Doodles. Over the years we’ve seen it tackle^( , ^( , and ^( . Today, it looks like the Google Doodles may be spreading further afield, as some users have now spotted them on their Android phones (h/t ^( ).
The feature adds an animation to the Google Search widget of Pixel phones, seemingly based on the current Doodle. Today it’s a flower, for example, representing the Spring Equinox (web version here).
The feature doesn’t appear to have rolled out to everyone; Google may be trialing it with a view to a full rollout down the line if all goes well. A couple of our editors now have it on their devices though, and you can see how it looks below:
If you don’t like the effect, you can also disable it by tapping and holding on the search widget, selecting Preferences, and tapping the Searchbox effects toggle.
For my money, this is a great addition to the Pixels. It’s fun, it’s optional, and the Doodles update just like Google’s homepage. And it would give Pixel owners something to brighten their day from time to time.
We’ll let you know when we see this roll out further. Give us your thoughts on these effects in the comments.
